Dr. Koutrouvelis has practiced medicine for over 30 years in greater Washington, DC metropolitan area. He is the director of URO-Radiology Prostate Institute (URPI), and is also an adjunct professor at Howard University. His staff know him as "Dr. K."
In 1956, Dr. K graduated from the University of Athens Medical School in Athens, Greece. He did an internship at Trinity Luthern Hospital in Kansas City, Missouri from 1956-1957. Dr. K completed his residencies at various places: from 1957-1958, Dr. K completed a residency in orthopedics at St. Luke's Hospital in Kansas City, Missouri; from 1958-1959, Dr. K completed a residency in radiology at the University of Kansas Medical Center; from 1959-1960, Dr. K completed a residency in radiology at the District of Columbia General Hospital; from 1960-1961, Dr. K completed a residency in radiation oncology at the Ontario Cancer Institute in Toronto, Canada.
In the early 1990's, Dr. K developed a new technique to treat prostate cancer called, 3-D CT-Guided pararectal brachytherapy. This revolutionary technique allowed treatment of prostate cancer where other treatments could not treat (to see a list click here).
